Estimator Opportunity with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), Supporting Sizewell C. As part of the CWA (Civil Works Alliance), you will support the building of Sizewell C. Sizewell C will be a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low‑carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and will play a key role in our energy future, supplying reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years. This role will be within the Main Civil Works Section.
The Opportunity: This is an opportunity to join one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes – Sizewell C – a once-in-a-generation clean energy project that will help power over 6 million homes for decades to come. Working within the Civil Works Alliance (a partnership between Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O'Rourke), you'll play a key role in developing robust, first‑principles estimates that support the successful delivery of one of Europe's largest infrastructure programmes.
As an Estimator, you'll work closely with the Lead Estimator, Senior Estimators and wider project teams to develop accurate cost estimates across major civil engineering packages. You'll collaborate with engineering, planning, procurement and commercial teams to provide reliable cost intelligence that supports project planning, decision‑making and successful project delivery.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Producing detailed first‑principles estimates for major civil engineering and infrastructure works
- Reviewing drawings, specifications and technical information to prepare accurate cost estimates for labour, plant, materials and subcontract works
- Developing pricing models using industry‑standard estimating software
- Working closely with engineering, planning, procurement and commercial teams to develop estimating assumptions and methodologies
- Identifying project risks, opportunities and value engineering solutions to improve cost certainty
- Preparing Bills of Quantities and supporting cost build‑ups using quantification software
- Maintaining estimate records, assumptions and change logs as project information develops
- Supporting presentations and estimate reviews with internal stakeholders and clients
What are we looking for?
- Experience as an Estimator within civil engineering, infrastructure or major construction projects
- Strong understanding of first‑principles estimating techniques
- Experience preparing estimates for labour, plant, materials and subcontractor packages
- Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software
- Experience using Candy Estimating and/or CostX would be highly desirable
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships across multidisciplinary teams
- Infrastructure, rail, highways, energy or major project experience would be advantageous
- Progress towards, or attainment of, professional membership with ICE, CICES, CIOB or RICS would be beneficial
