Power Systems Design Engineer

Are you an experienced Power Systems Engineer with a background in Battery Energy Storage or Microgrid applications? Our client, a market leader in advanced energy technologies, is seeking a skilled engineer to join their growing team in support of their cutting-edge BESS platforms.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a pioneering company developing energy resilience and smart grid solutions. You ll play a key role in the configuration, validation, and commissioning of complex energy systems ensuring Power Conversion Systems (PCS) and Battery Management Systems (BMS/SBMS) are integrated and tested to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the configuration, testing, and commissioning of Power Conversion Systems (PCS), with a focus on platforms such as Sungrow and EPC.
  • Support the integration and operational readiness of BMS and SBMS components.
  • Act as a technical liaison between engineering design and on-site commissioning teams.
  • Develop and maintain test procedures, commissioning protocols, and system checklists.
  • Troubleshoot system-level issues across test environments, FAT/SAT, and live commissioning stages.
  • Ensure compliance with grid codes, safety, and functional specifications.
  • Conduct occasional site visits (3 5 days/month) for system validation and hands-on commissioning support.

Desirable (Not Essential):

  • Involvement in system design and modelling of BESS/microgrids.
  • Use of simulation tools such as ETAP, Typhoon HIL, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or MATLAB Simulink.
  • Contribution to functional safety or cybersecurity reviews of power systems.

Candidate Profile:

Essential Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Renewable Energy, or similar.
  • Experience working on BESS or microgrid systems.
  • Familiarity with UK grid standards (e.g. G99, G100).
  • Experience with PCS commissioning, especially Sungrow or EPC units.
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics, protection systems, and grid connection principles.

Preferred:

  • ECS/JIB Gold Card (advantageous).
  • Experience with BMS/SBMS in real-world deployments.
  • Competence in digital simulation or power modelling tools.
