Our client is an innovative engineering business developing high-reliability electronic products for demanding automotive and performance-focused applications. Due to continued growth and new product development programmes, they are looking to appoint an experienced Systems Engineer with expertise in electronics design, sensor technology, and wireless communication systems.

The Role

You will lead the development of advanced monitoring and sensing systems, taking ownership of electronic hardware design from concept through validation and production. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will contribute to the development of robust, safety-critical products that operate in challenging real-world environments. This role offers the opportunity to work across the full product lifecycle, from initial system architecture and component selection through to testing, validation, and ongoing product support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electronics Design & Development
    • Lead the design and development of advanced pressure and temperature monitoring systems.
    • Define electronic architectures and ensure compliance with technical, regulatory, and customer requirements.
    • Select, integrate, and validate electronic components with a focus on reliability, durability, and performance.
    • Take ownership of end-to-end electronic system design, including schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, and validation.
    • Design and develop sensor hardware, RF circuits, power management systems, and signal conditioning electronics.
    • Collaborate closely with embedded software and systems engineering teams to ensure seamless hardware integration.
  • Product Lifecycle Support
    • Act as the technical authority for electronic hardware throughout the product lifecycle.
    • Support and enhance existing product designs, identifying opportunities for performance and reliability improvements.
    • Lead and contribute to APQP activities, including FMEA reviews, risk assessments, and product quality initiatives.
    • Work alongside manufacturing teams to ensure Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) principles are embedded within designs.
  • Testing, Validation & Documentation
    • Develop and execute Design Verification Plans (DVPs) covering bench-level and vehicle-level testing.
    • Analyse test results and ensure products meet all performance, compliance, and reliability requirements.
    • Produce detailed technical reports, investigation findings, and engineering documentation.
    • Maintain accurate records throughout the development process in line with company standards and quality systems.
  • Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
    • Investigate and resolve hardware-related issues, including customer and production concerns.
    • Perform root-cause analysis and component-level fault diagnosis.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across products, processes, and engineering practices.

About You

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Degree qualified (BEng or equivalent) in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience developing and integrating sensor technologies within automotive, motorsport, or similarly demanding environments.
  • Strong background in analogue and digital electronic design, analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience designing and validating CAN/CAN FD communication systems at transceiver level.
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB design tools.
  • Strong understanding of RF design, including 433MHz and 2.4GHz wireless technologies.
  • Knowledge of EMC/EMI principles and mitigation techniques.
  • Experience with fault finding, root-cause analysis, and hardware validation.
  • Familiarity with Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) methodologies.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with circuit simulation tools.
  • Knowledge of advanced PCB technologies including Flex, Rigid-Flex, and HDI designs.
  • Certified PCB Layout Designer (CID/CID+).
  • Understanding of embedded software and hardware integration.
