About Six Stories

Founded in 2019 by Lucy and Ross, Six Stories is a leading fashion brand known for our thoughtfully designed, confidence-boosting occasion wear. Inspired by true romantics, our collections are rooted in weddings and life's most meaningful celebrations. With our customer at the heart of everything we do, we've experienced fast, consistent growth - recently ranking #15 in The Sunday Times 100 Fastest-Growing Companies 2024. We're proudly stocked in Selfridges, ASOS, Next and Very.com.

As a bootstrapped business, we move fast and think big. Our team is made up of driven self-starters who thrive in a dynamic, ever-evolving environment. We're guided by our core values: Joy, Authenticity, Community and Quality. We're now growing our brilliant team and looking for positive, energetic individuals to be part of this exciting next chapter.

Purpose of the Role

We’re looking for a Commercial & Operations Manager to help us run smarter, leaner and more profitably, with clarity over all operations, process and finances. You’ll sit at the intersection of ops, finance, and strategy - turning complexity into clarity. As we scale our business, you’ll help ensure we are doing so as efficiently as possible. This is a role for someone who gets fired up by ownership, who loves making sense of the moving parts, and who has a sharp instinct for commercial decision-making. Someone who is excellent with finances and has the leadership and commercial nous to make real positive change within our logistics and operations. You’ll free up the founders to focus on growth by owning the financial and operational engine that powers it.

What You'll Own

  • Full Ownership of Financial Clarity
    • Own weekly/monthly financial reporting with insight into what’s really driving performance
    • Manage our in-house management accountant to ensure finances are up to date and correct with monthly management packs
  • Cashflow, Cost Control & Risk Management
    • Monitor and manage cashflow across the whole business
    • Flag upcoming risks (e.g. supplier pre-payments, 3PL liabilities, freight exposure)
    • Support the CEO with budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning
    • Actively manage risk across logistics, suppliers, operations and team
  • End-to-End Operational Oversight
    • Own global logistics - Own the relationship with our 3PLs across UK, US, and EU including pricing, performance, and issue resolution.
    • Returns performance - be the internal owner of our returns process, driving improvements and accountability across teams and partners.
    • Freight and international expansion - lead logistics planning for international growth, including freight setup and local fulfilment models.
    • Order fulfilment - ensure timely, accurate processing of all e-commerce and wholesale orders, globally.
    • Warehouse and packaging - oversee WMS sync and packaging inventory; ensure 3PLs store and handle stock in line with brand and commercial standards.
    • Logistics systems and data - ensure all SLA data is tracked and reported against agreed KPIs, accessible to stakeholders.
    • Cross-functional coordination - collaborate with Production and Product Development to optimise shipping from suppliers to factories; support wholesale logistics with Buying and Merch teams.
  • Commercial Stock Planning
    • Work closely with our Buying & Merch teams to translate sales forecasts into smart buying decisions
    • Help optimise margin and stock cover - avoiding overstock, cashflow crunches, and missed opportunities
  • Drive High-Impact Commercial Projects
    • Lead projects that cut cost or improve contribution - e.g. returns strategy, packaging optimisation, duty mitigation
    • Improve cross-border logistics (especially US and EU), including tariff handling, duties and DDP/DDU analysis
  • Scale with Focus
    • Help make sure our scaling = profitable growth, not just more complexity
    • Bring rigour to creative decisions and commercial strategy across the SLT
    • Be a trusted thought partner to the founders - willing to challenge and drive clarity
  • Customer Service
    • Oversee the Customer Service function of the business currently headed up by Customer Service Manager.
    • Work closely with the Customer Service Manager to ensure core KPIs are met and future plan to ensure we consistently meet as the business grows.
    • Continually evaluate and look for ways to improve our customer experience across all channels
    • Work closely with internal teams on identifying reoccurring problems and work with relevant stakeholders, internal and external to identify continuous improvements

Who You Are

  • Highly numerate and commercially sharp - you understand margin, contribution and unit economics of an ecommerce business inside out
  • You have a solid understanding of financial accounts and are able to translate the numbers with context into clear action points and then take action with the team to improve them
  • Experienced in DTC e-commerce, operations, & finance (especially in fast-growing businesses)
  • You’ve worked with 3PLs before and understand how to drive performance there
  • You work fast and have high expectations
  • Strong communicator who can rally teams, liaise with suppliers, and bring clarity to complexity
  • Confident with tools like Excel / Google Sheets and not afraid to chase detail
  • A great person to be around with a can-do attitude and a solid grounding of the numbers

Why This Role is Exciting

  • We’re scaling fast. We’re at a really exciting stage in the business where processes and operations become extremely important as we grow
  • You’ll be part of the Senior Leadership Team, working directly with the founders in one of the UK’s fastest growing companies
  • We’re expanding internationally with speed, providing loads of opportunity
  • You’ll make a visible impact with a business our size. Turning messy areas into margin and uncertainty into clarity
  • We have a highly engaged customer who is at one of the best times in her life, making for a very positive feel across our business
  • We have an amazing team
