Job Description

Purpose of the Role

To take ownership of all aspects of health & safety, regulatory compliance, environmental permits, and sustainability initiatives across the site, ensuring the business meets its legal and operational obligations, while supporting growth and best practice within the sector. The role requires a high degree of autonomy while reporting to the Operations Director, who holds ultimate accountability for this area of the business.

Key Responsibilities

· Health & Safety

· Lead on all site health & safety matters, ensuring compliance with legislation, regulations, and company policies.

· Deliver, track, and record all required staff training, toolbox talks, inductions, and certifications.

· Maintain and update incident reporting, risk assessments, method statements, and corrective actions.

Compliance & Permits

· Manage and maintain all waste management permits, applications, renewals, and variations.

· Act as main point of contact with the regulatory bodies, including handling site inspections, interviews and audits

· Ensure full compliance with sector regulations, including duty of care across suppliers and outlets.

Contracts & Certification

· Oversee all site certifications and staff qualifications, working alongside HR.

· Support the development and maintenance of supplier/customer contracts and tenders (in partnership with Sales for commercial elements).

· Maintain and develop ISO standards ( or others as applicable) across the business.

Sustainability & Continuous Improvement

· Lead the business’s sustainability agenda, driving initiatives to reduce environmental impact and improve resource efficiency.

· Benchmark and report on sustainability metrics, supporting long-term business strategy.

· Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in compliance, safety, and sustainability practices.

Key Relationships

Reports to: Operations Director (who holds ultimate accountability).

Works closely with: HR, Sales, Operations, and Site Management teams.

External: Environment Agency, auditors, certification bodies, suppliers, and contractors.

Skills & Experience

· Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, and compliance frameworks.

· NEBOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification essential.

· Experience managing ISO standards ().

· Excellent organisational and documentation skills.

· Strong communication and stakeholder management skills—comfortable liaising with regulators and senior managers.

· Ability to work independently, taking ownership of compliance and sustainability across the business.
