About the role
Markerstudy Group is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to contribute to innovative insurance risk modeling and pricing techniques. We are a leading provider of private insurance in the UK, insuring a significant proportion of vehicles across the country. Our innovative approach supports well-known brands such as Tesco, Sainsbury's, and Halifax. In this hybrid role based in either Manchester or Haywards Heath, you will play a crucial part in enhancing our machine learning capabilities, helping us stay competitive in the market. Responsibilities
- Tune machine learning methods to leverage state-of-the-art processing capabilities
- Deploy and maintain machine learning methods in a DevOps/MLOps environment
- Create robust, high-quality code using test-driven development (TDD) techniques
- Refine, tune, deploy and maintain machine learning methods in our pipeline
- Propose, proof-of-concept, develop, and deliver novel machine learning processes
- Collaborate with data science teams to deploy state-of-the-art, robust, and extensible machine learning methods
- Actively contribute to fostering a culture of coding and data excellence
- Implement efficient solutions across various markets, including Private Motor, Commercial Vehicle, Bike, Taxi, and Home
- Lead and mentor junior machine learning engineers, sharing best practices
- Report and communicate with senior stakeholders, including the Head of Data Science and Machine Learning and Director of Technical Underwriting
Requirements
- Previous experience in tuning and deploying machine learning methods
- Familiarity with predictive modeling techniques such as Logistic Regression, GBMs, Elastic Net GLMs, GAMs, Decision Trees, Random Forests, Neural Nets, and Clustering
- Experience in DevOps and Azure ML, or other MLOps and ML lifecycle technology stacks like AWS, Databricks, Google Cloud
- Proficiency in deploying services in Docker and Kubernetes
- Strong ability to create production-grade code following SOLID programming principles, including test-driven development (TDD)
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, PySpark, R, SAS, and SQL
- Experience with source control software, e.g., GitHub
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for conveying results clearly
- Knowledge of data and model monitoring is a plus
- Educated to at least a masters level in a STEM-based or Data Science/ML/AI/mathematical discipline
- Strong collaborative and team-oriented mindset
- Logical thinker with a professional and positive attitude
