Requirements

  • Experienced Data Solutions Architect or similar, with a strong track record.
  • Hands-on cloud platform expertise across Google Cloud Platform, Azure, or AWS.
  • Good understanding of Google BigQuery.
  • Expertise in data platform architecture, configuration, and optimisation, particularly with MPP databases such as Google BigQuery.
  • Strong knowledge of data mesh principles, database design, data warehousing concepts, and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, with an eye for identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical solutions to both engineers and non-technical executives.
  • Strong understanding of data security and GDPR requirements.
  • A basic DBS check is mandatory for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design of our data platform architecture, ensuring it meets current and future needs.
  • Produce clear architectural documentation and diagrams to support understanding and implementation.
  • Embed a domain-oriented ownership model and promote a Data as a Product mindset across development efforts.
  • Assess and recommend suitable tools, infrastructure, and services to improve our platform.
  • Establish and maintain architectural standards, reference architectures, and best practices across the team.
  • Design solutions that uphold governance, security, and quality requirements.
  • Ensure our data products are discoverable, interoperable, and trustworthy.
  • Design robust data pipelines, including batch, event-driven, and streaming architectures.
  • Address operational concerns such as security, scalability, performance, observability, and user experience.
  • Work closely with the Principal Data Platform Engineer and Principal Data Engineer to architect and develop our data platform.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on data strategy and platform direction, including data capabilities, trade-offs, and roadmap development.
  • Partner with domain squads to design robust data products and provide architectural guidance.
  • Mentor engineers and analysts in data modelling, integration, and design best practices.
