Requirements

  • Degree (BSc, BEng, MEng, MSc, PhD) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or a related field
  • Ability to analyse system-level requirements and derive detailed firmware requirements
  • Experience in firmware design techniques and tools, from VHDL to place-and-route
  • Experience with FPGA architectures such as system-on-chip, for example Xilinx
  • Proficiency in specifying timing and area constraints for FPGA place-and-route
  • Experience integrating and debugging complex systems involving firmware, hardware, and software
  • Experience working in mixed-discipline teams
  • Five years of UK residency and the capability to achieve full SC security clearance

Desirable:

  • Experience with auto-generated code using model-driven engineering tools like MATLAB and Simulink
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Verilog, SystemVerilog, and UVM
  • Experience with Siemens tools like HDL Designer and QuestaSim
  • Familiarity with tools like DOORs and ReqTracer
  • Experience within the defence industry

Responsibilities

  • Develop high-performance firmware for critical surveillance radar solutions
  • Support requirement capture, architecture definition, design maturation, integration, and qualification for next-generation surveillance radars
  • Analyse system-level requirements and capture or derive detailed firmware requirements
  • Use firmware design techniques and tools, from VHDL to place-and-route
  • Specify timing and area constraints for efficient FPGA place-and-route
  • Integrate and debug complex systems where firmware interacts with hardware and software
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery
  • Mentor junior team members to enhance their firmware development skills
