The Scrap and Waste Management CI Process Engineer is responsible for driving the reduction of waste and scrap across the Siva production sites. The postholder will diagnose waste and scrap issues, generate and implement improvement plans, and develop robust, standardised processes. The role works across production areas and teams to embed best practice and ensure the long-term sustainability of waste reduction initiatives across the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Closed-Loop Film Cleaning Operation (Primary Responsibility)
    • Maintain, monitor, and continuously improve the closed-loop film cleaning operation to ensure 24/7 production.
    • Ensure stable operation, material quality, and compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
    • Identify process improvements to maximise recovery rates and minimise downtime, losses, and contamination.
    • Develop, maintain, and standardise operating procedures related to the film cleaning process.
  • Waste & Scrap Reduction
    • Lead initiatives to reduce waste and scrap generated across all stages of the flexible packaging process (extrusion, lamination, converting printing and slitting).
    • Analyse waste and scrap data to identify trends, root causes, and high-loss areas.
    • Set clear waste reduction targets aligned with site KPIs and business objectives.
    • Develop and implement action plans to improve material yield and process efficiency.
  • Process Improvement & Standardisation
    • Identify opportunities to improve processes, machine settings, and operating practices to minimise waste.
    • Support the development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to waste control.
    • Work with Engineering to address equipment-related causes of scrap.
  • Data Collection & Reporting
    • Ensure accurate recording, categorisation, and reporting of waste and scrap.
    • Produce weekly reports and dashboards showing waste performance, cost impact, and progress against targets.
    • Track savings delivered through waste reduction initiatives.
    • Support internal and external audits relating to waste, quality, and environmental compliance.
  • Training & Culture
    • Deliver training and coaching to operators and team leaders on waste awareness and best practices using diarised workshops on an ongoing basis.
    • Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement around waste reduction.
    • Encourage employee engagement and idea generation to reduce waste.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to influence and engage teams at all levels of the organisation.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Organised, proactive, and results-driven approach.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably flexible packaging, plastics, or film extrusion/conversion.
  • Experience operating, maintaining, or improving recycling, reprocessing, or closed-loop systems (desirable).
  • Demonstrated experience leading waste, scrap, or yield improvement initiatives.
  • Technical understanding of manufacturing processes and quality systems.
  • Minimum green belt preferred.

Working Pattern

4on 4off day/nights 6am-6pm

Salary: £45,000 per annum for a green belt, rising to £55,000 for a black belt.
