We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Operations Director to lead the design, operations, project management, and factory production teams within a UK-based organisation. This senior role carries responsibility for driving efficiency, consistency, and performance across the business through the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of standard policies and procedures.
As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Operations Director will be accountable for ensuring customer orders are delivered on time and to the highest standards. You will lead teams to achieve demanding quality, cost, delivery, people, safety, and environmental KPIs, while fostering a culture of operational excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Management of the design, project management, operations and factory production teams including optimisation, performance, appraisals, planning, team development.
- Lead new market entry into life science, health care and housing while delivering current education sector in UK and Ireland.
- Continue to lead and develop a positive culture of collaboration, leading by example through consistent compliance with internal and external regulations and standards.
- Motivating your team to achieve deadlines, excel in efficiency and encourage innovative improvements to current practices.
- Lead final accounts settlements with customers and supply chain.
- Present to the VB board on operational performance of the business.
- Lead the expansion plans for factory and offices.
- Manage budgets and cost control for overheads and cost of sale staff associated with operations.
- Key involvement in work winning and customer focused relationship building.
- Be a key contributor to the Senior Leadership Team whilst working closely with internal and external stakeholders, creating, managing, and maintaining strong relationships through effective communication.
- Ensuring the successful planning and delivery of products in line with cost effective, quality measures by implementing the optimal structures, selecting, training and developing Line Leads and Supervisors.
- Developing the strategic programmes for Tender including Design & Procurement (as appropriate).
- Report on and manage cost-benefit analysis on all activities including estimating and forecasting.
- Establishing workflow policies and process optimisation utilising LEAN techniques and automation opportunities to enhance speed and efficiency without compromising productivity, safety or integrity.
- Gaining a meticulous understanding of the customer’s requirements and accordingly tailoring the production plan.
- Management of raw materials, procurement and control of inventory.
- Implementation of Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental systems and procedures, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards to create a safe environment for employees and others impacted by the site.
Experience
- 15+ years’ experience at senior management level in main contracting or similar.
- Experience at project director / regional director level within main contractor/similar sector.
- 10+ years in people management, leadership and development.
- Experience of being part of regional or company steering group or board.
- Experience in CVRs, financial reporting and forecasting.
- Proven track record of delivering against deadlines and commitments.
- Experience of managing cross functional teams including technical/design.
- Multi sector public works experience.
- Experience working with and reporting through computer systems e.g., MS Office, ERP systems.
- Planning/ERP software experience.
- Offsite/MMC experience desirable.
Qualifications
Essential
- Relevant third level qualification.
- LEAN & Six Sigma Certification.
- Formal Project Management / leadership qualification.
- Working knowledge of Construction and/or MMC techniques, Design techniques & BIM modelling.
- Working knowledge of Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental regulations.
- Commercially proficient, delivery focused and driver of performance.
- Effective communication skills.
- Effective decision maker.
- Fluent in English (verbal and written).

- H&S management training desirable.
- Chartership preferable.
