We are seeking a Health & Safety advisor for Macclesfield. The Health & Safety Advisor will lead the implementation of a professional, competent and knowledge-sharing culture across all your sites ensuring that best in class health, safety and environment is planned, implemented and shared effectively. Responsibilities
- Lead by example.
- Provide sound and industry leading advice to project stakeholders.
- Carry out audits/inspections of Sisk workplaces at a frequency and with the intrusiveness as coached by the BU HSE Manager.
- Attend sites following accidents/incidents and assist with the investigation. In the absence of the Project Director or HSE Manager lead the investigation.
- Liaise with enforcement authorities if they attend site to investigate following an incident.
- Assist the HSE Manager in preparation of a Health and Safety report for the BU MD at applicable intervals.
- Alert the HSE Manager if there is reason to believe there will be a period of inadequate cover for Health and Safety.
- In absence of HSE Manager assist tender and prequalification teams where requested advising on Health and Safety concerns as well as helping provide practical solutions.
- Attend Start Up meetings with your line manager and Sisk site teams. Where requested attend other project meetings.
- Deliver appropriate training.
- Be aware of critical legislative changes and best practices to enable provision of competent Health & Safety advice to site stakeholders.
- Be aware of own limitations ensure advice given remains within those limitations.
Experience and Skills
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in the construction industry.
- Minimum 3 years as a health and safety professional.
- Technical membership of IOSH (Tech IOSH).
- Identify and alert the HSE Manager to any period of inadequate safety cover.
- Assist tender and prequalification teams by advising on safety concerns and practical solutions where required.
- Attend project start up meetings and supply chain meetings when requested.
- Deliver appropriate health and safety training to site staff.
- Stay informed on legislative changes and industry best practice to ensure competent advice is provided.
- Recognise the limits of competence and seek further support where required.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Effective interpersonal and engagement skills.
- Understanding of performance management processes.
Qualifications and Training Required
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent.
- NVQ Level 4 or EQF Level 3 in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.
- Internal Auditor qualification.
- Training in incident investigation.
- Local PD/CDM and PSDP/PSCS training.
- Awareness of lifting operations including BS7121 and IS361.
- Temporary works awareness including understanding of the TWC role.
- Training in temporary works supervision.
- Additional professional development within occupational health, environment or behavioural safety.
