The Quantity Surveyor will work within and assist the commercial and construction team to ensure successful project delivery while maintaining relationships, maximising commercial returns and managing risk.
Responsibilities
- Preparing tenders, analysing and selecting subcontractors, negotiating and finalising subcontract orders.
- Managing financial and commercial aspects of subcontractors to final account completion.
- Maintaining site records and document control.
- Recording site measurements.
- Assisting with forecasts, targets and contract value reconciliations.
- Preparing valuations and variations with sufficient records and details, agreeing changes as works progress.
- Updating projected final account and submitting in a timely manner.
- Liaising with site management to influence and challenge commercial matters.
- Implementing commercial strategy.
- Maintaining and protecting John Sisk & Son commercial and contractual entitlements.
- Participating in contract value reviews maintaining an independent view.
- Identifying and assessing risks and opportunities.
- Developing understanding of insurances and warranties.
- Engaging in cash management activities to ensure good cash flow.
- Supporting tender processes as required.
- Supervising and overseeing Assistant and Trainee Quantity Surveyors, checking their work.
- Applying clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Effectively utilising technology platforms.
- Being fully conversant with the Standard Method of Measurement.
- Demonstrating commercial awareness and ownership.
- Applying time management, organisational, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
Qualifications
- Degree level education and working towards relevant professional accreditation.
- Knowledge of JCT contracts.
- Letter and report writing skills.
- Negotiation skills.
- Contract value reviews (CVRs).
- 2‑day safety appreciation course including contract and commercial awareness.
- CIOB membership or eligibility.
- Experience with larger Design and Build contracts.
- Knowledge of claims and dispute resolution.
- Understanding of contract law.
- Involvement with contracts above €/£15m without responsibility.
- Responsibility for controlling traditional contracts.
- Supervising Assistant Quantity Surveyors and sign‑off Standard Method of Measurement or measurement issues.
