Role Description

The Principal Electrical Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in London, responsible for leading electrical design and engineering activities across a variety of building and infrastructure projects.

This role involves overseeing the development of electrical schemes, including power distribution and power systems, ensuring compliance with applicable standards, codes, and client requirements.

The Principal Electrical Engineer will manage project delivery from concept through detailed design, coordinate with mechanical and public health engineers, and collaborate closely with architects, contractors, and stakeholders to produce integrated MEP solutions.

Day-to-day duties include reviewing and approving calculations and drawings, guiding junior engineers and technicians, performing technical reviews, and resolving design challenges to ensure buildable and energy‑efficient solutions.

The role also includes contributing to project planning, resource allocation, and quality assurance, while supporting business development through technical input on proposals and client presentations.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong expertise in Electrical Engineering and Electricity, with a solid understanding of fundamental principles and building services applications.
  • Candidates should possess advanced skills in Electrical Design, including preparation of schematics, load calculations, equipment specifications, and compliance with international and local codes.
  • Candidates should possess in-depth knowledge of Power Distribution systems, including LV and MV networks, switchgear, lighting, emergency power, and protection coordination.
  • Candidates should possess comprehensive experience in Power Systems analysis, including fault level studies, load flow, reliability, and integration of renewable and energy‑efficient solutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline; professional registration or chartered status is an advantage.
  • Proven experience in leading electrical design teams on complex MEP projects, preferably in consulting environments.
  • Strong familiarity with relevant british standards and regulations and good practice guidelines for building services.
