We're looking for an experienced Scrub Nurse to join our insourcing theatre team in Dumfries, supporting elective surgical lists across Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and General Surgery. This is an excellent opportunity for a versatile, multi-specialty scrub practitioner to help reduce patient waiting lists while working flexible sessional lists.
What you'll be doing:
- Scrubbing for elective lists across Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and General Surgery
- Preparing and checking instrumentation, equipment and consumables ahead of each list
- Anticipating the needs of the surgical team throughout procedures
- Maintaining accurate swab, sharps and instrument counts in line with local policy
- Ensuring aseptic technique and infection control standards are upheld throughout
- Supporting safe patient positioning and handover between theatre and recovery
- Working closely with surgeons, anaesthetists and the wider theatre team to keep lists running to time
What we're looking for:
- Registered Nurse with current registration
- Proven scrub experience across Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and General Surgery
- Sound knowledge of specialty-specific instrumentation and equipment (e.g. phaco/vitrectomy sets, power tools and implants, general surgical sets)
- Strong understanding of aseptic technique, infection control and swab/instrument count procedures
- Current DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
- Right to work in the UK
- Confident working independently across mixed specialty lists
