Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapist -Stroke

Job overview

This role is to provide leadership to the ICSS team and clinical specialism in Speech and Language Therapy. It involves working with other team leads in the MDT to support the day to day running of the service, monitor outcomes and performance and to supervise junior colleagues. You would also provide Specialist intervention to people who have communication and/or swallowing difficulties after stroke in their homes or local community.

The role is based in North Somerset but involves working with others to look at Speech Therapy provision and the running of the service more widely across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire along with the service lead.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide clinical intervention for Speech and Language therapy as part of an MDT including those with complex needs
  • Provide leadership, clinical support and supervision to motivate team members and develop effective team working and personal development.
  • Triage referrals & be a key point of contact for the community stroke service
  • Involvement in performance reporting and workforce management
  • Providing advice and support in specialist field for the MDT and other community teams
  • Support the service lead in developing policies and processes and auditing performance
  • Responsible for the principles of clinical governance, health and safety, governance, health and safety,
  • Responsibility for HR processes such as performance management, recruitment, complaints and incident reporting and incident reporting with direct reports
  • To provide clinical education for students and junior colleagues

Person specification

Qualifications

  • Registered Speech and Language Therapist with relevant degree and HCPC registration
  • Evidence of Dysphagia training
  • Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy
  • Evidence of study at masters level or willingness to undertake

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Significant experience of stroke rehabilitation
  • Specialist skills in managing communication and swallowing difficulties after stroke
  • Evidence of leadership skills
  • Involvement in service development and audit
  • Experience of working in a community stroke service
  • Able to work collaboratively within own and multidisciplinary health and social care teams
  • Highly competent clinical documentation skills
