Main duties of the job

  • We are seeking a senior, experienced clinician who can work autonomously providing medical care for children with neurodevelopmental conditions and neuro-disability within the Community Paediatrics department in Sirona.
  • Clinical duties - As a specialist they will serve as ‘expert decision-makers’ responsible for the full range of patient care within community paediatrics, with the potential to work independently. They will be expected to manage a community paediatric caseload including responding to requests for education health and care plans. The role will primarily focus on providing direct clinical care in out-patient clinics, meeting service delivery requirements.
  • Leadership and teaching - The role will be supported by suitable development opportunities including management roles and leadership responsibilities in teaching and service development.
  • Study & Research - Sirona is committed to ensuring that support is given for Continuing Professional Development. The postholder will be required to fulfil the requirements laid down by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, and to fulfil the requirements for revalidation laid down by the General Medical Council.
  • Clinical Governance - The postholder will be required to take part in a Clinical Governance programme, to include audit and quality improvement, in line with revalidation requirements to provide evidence of service development.

Person specification

  • Full GMC registration with evidence of annual appraisals
  • A minimum of 12 years medical work since obtaining a primary medical qualification
  • A minimum of 6 years working within Community Paediatrics within the UK including assessing and diagnosing children with neurodevelopmental conditions and those with neuro-disability.
  • Experience of safeguarding working including involvement in multi-agency strategy discussions and carrying out child protection medicals.
  • Able to engage with and communicate clearly with a wide range of people, notably children, young people and their families.
  • Willingness and enthusiasm to undertake teaching of medical under-graduates & postgraduates.
  • Must be willing and able to meet the travel requirements of the post.
  • Evidence of leading multi-disciplinary meetings.
  • Recent, relevant quality improvement work.
  • Up to date mandatory training.
  • Evidence of leadership training.
