Sirius Environmental is looking for a flood risk/drainage/civil engineer to join our busy design team based in Leeds, with flexible options for hybrid or fully remote working. As part of the Sirius Group – a forward-thinking, employee-owned consulting and contracting business, you will work closely with our Principal Engineer alongside other engineers within the design team to design and deliver a wide variety of drainage and flood risk projects across the UK. This opportunity will involve working in a variety of sectors including commercial developments, waste management facilities, quarries, solar, Battery Energy Storage Systems and Hydrogen Production Facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing detailed Flood Risk Assessments to support planning applications for our clients.
- Producing detailed drainage strategy reports to support planning applications.
- Designing detailed surface and foul water drainage systems.
- Collaborate with engineers within our design team, planners, clients, and third parties to deliver cost effective solutions.
- Supporting the design team where required on other civil and geotechnical design projects.
- Liaison with statutory bodies, including local authorities, highways teams and water authorities.
About You
- Proficiency in Infodrainage/Microdrainage (or equivalent drainage design software).
- Knowledge of current drainage design standards and guidance.
- Experience in Sustainable Drainage System design to CIRIA C753.
- Experience of designing surface water and foul water drainage systems.
- Previous experience using GIS software.
- Experience of producing flood risk assessments compliant with the NPPF/EA Guidance and TAN15 (NRW).
- Knowledge of the regulatory context for flood risk planning in the UK.
- Experience of producing drainage strategies conforming to current regulatory requirements.
- Ideally 2 years professional experience within a consultancy, being involved with delivering drainage design and flood risk assessments (but we are open to hearing from strong candidates with other levels of experience).
- Ideal but not essential, experience of producing 1D/2D hydraulic models and knowledge of hydraulic modelling requirements in the UK.
- A proactive approach to teamwork and independent working.
- Confident communicator with excellent report-writing skills.
- A degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology or Environmental Science is preferred.
- Preferred skills (not essential, training provided): Plaxis 2D, Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, Flood Modeller.
- Preferred knowledge in road design utilising DMRB or wider civil engineering design.
