Contract: Permanent

No two days are the same in this hands-on IT role. We're looking for an IT Technician to join our Technology Team in Gloucestershire, supporting five schools as they transition into Lift Schools. This is a unique opportunity to join us at an exciting point in our journey, helping to modernise technology and ensure every school has the digital tools needed to deliver an excellent education.

Based primarily at Marling School, you'll also provide IT support across:

  • Callowell Primary School
  • Berkeley Primary School
  • Camwoodfield Junior School
  • Hillview Primary School

You’ll play a key role in supporting the migration of these schools into Lift Schools, working as part of a growing Technology Team as we invest in upgraded infrastructure, improved internet services and modern technology across the region. Regular travel between schools is required, so you’ll need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. Mileage for travel between schools during the working day will be reimbursed.

About the role

Working alongside fellow IT Technicians, Technology Support Officers and third-party partners, you’ll provide responsive day-to-day technical support for colleagues and students while contributing to wider technology improvements across our schools. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing first and second-line IT support across multiple schools.
  • Diagnosing and resolving hardware, software and network issues.
  • Supporting Windows, Apple and Chrome devices.
  • Installing, maintaining and repairing laptops, Chromebooks and audio-visual equipment.
  • Supporting classroom technology, printing, telephony, CCTV and other key systems.
  • Assisting with network maintenance, software deployment and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Maintaining accurate asset records and support documentation.
  • Delivering excellent customer service and building positive relationships with school colleagues.

About you

You’ll enjoy solving technical problems, learning new technologies and helping others get the most from IT. We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Experience supporting hardware, software and operating systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience supporting audio-visual technology.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • The ability to work independently whilst managing a varied workload.
  • A proactive, organised and solution-focused approach.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Experience working in education would be an advantage, but it isn’t essential.

If you have the technical skills, curiosity and passion to learn, we’d love to hear from you.

How to prepare for a job interview at SIR HERBERT LEON ACADEMY

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Know the Business Impact of IT Solutions

Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
