As we grow, we're looking for an experienced Senior Project Engineer to join our team and support our “Everything Is Important” culture.
Job Summary
As a Senior Body Project Engineer, you’ll be responsible for being the lead engineer on a variant programme for the Body department. This means co-ordinating the development and integration of the Body systems and body mechanisms. The role reports to the Head of Body Engineering, but with daily direction from one of the principal engineers. You’ll collaborate across disciplines to resolve engineering challenges, design maturation and release, manage change processes, and ensure components meet our exacting standards from concept through to production release. In a fast-paced and challenging environment, you’ll need to be robust and adaptable, managing shifting priorities while maintaining focus under pressure. Your ability to balance multiple demands without compromising on quality and delivery will be essential. Experience in body mechanisms e.g. closures, regulators, folding roof systems would be highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and deliver the engineering, validation, and release of body exterior systems and mechanisms to meet design specifications, styling intentions and quality standards.
- Lead and co-ordinate body delivery of a variant programme, giving daily direction to a team of external CAD designers.
- Manage issue resolution, driving solutions through engineering change and into production.
- Represent the department with the project status within the relevant forums, e.g. ETRS.
- Engage directly with strategic suppliers, ensuring technical requirements and performance targets are met, leading and/or supporting DFM activities, feeding back to internal stakeholders including the design studio.
- Support with all planning and project management activities required to deliver on time and to budget.
- Conduct / Support / plan design reviews internally to Body and with other function groups.
- Support both prototype & production launch build phases.
- Cross-functional working with other function groups is required to ensure Singer successfully deliver the vehicle project objectives.
- Support all other standard engineering business processes involved in delivery or production components – e.g. Commodity planning and management.
- BOM and invest cost tracking.
- RFQ and nomination processes (creation of concept sheets and preliminary data).
- PPAP.
- Writing of test and validation requirements and test execution support.
- Ensure all commodities within your ownership have an up-to-date commodity delivery plan that includes tasks required to validate parts ahead of build.
- Any incompatibilities with Programme timing to be escalated through the Body Engineering Management and Programme team.
- Act as the single point of contact for all cross-functional discussions as required within your programme.
- Other tasks as assigned by a line manager.
Experience Required & Preferable Qualifications
- Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
- The candidate must have familiarity and experience in delivering commodities within body Engineering, a knowledge of body mechanisms and/or sealing would be advantageous.
- Other body engineering disciplines considered.
- Ability to communicate clearly & confidently with at all levels of the business in writing and verbally.
- Knowledge, and experience of working within a low volume Automotive environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to create and manage commodity timing and delivery plans.
- Ability to manage data and create KPIs.
