The Assistant Manager, Membership & Industry Groups plays a key role in growing SMF’s membership base and strengthening member retention. This role is responsible for actively acquiring new members, engaging existing members, and converting engagement into renewals, while supporting Industry Groups as a channel for sustained member value and relevance.
Key Responsibilities
- Membership Acquisition & Growth (Primary Focus)
- Proactively recruit new members through targeted outreach, partnerships and campaigns.
- Develop and execute membership acquisition strategies, including lead generation, prospect conversion and follow‑ups.
- Identify and pursue new membership channels, including referrals, events, collaborations and sector‑focused opportunities.
- Work closely with internal teams to package and articulate SMF’s membership value proposition clearly to prospective members.
- Membership Retention & Engagement (Primary Focus)
- Drive retention and renewal of existing members through structured engagement, regular touchpoints and needs‑based follow‑ups.
- Analyze membership data to identify at‑risk members, renewal trends, and opportunities to improve retention rates.
- Develop and implement member engagement initiatives, value-added programmes and benefits that directly address members’ business needs.
- Industry Group (IG) & Programme Enablement (Supporting Focus)
- Support Industry Groups as engagement platforms to deliver relevance and value to members.
- Collaborate with IG Committee members to ensure programmes and activities are aligned with member needs, sector priorities and SMF’s framework.
- Organize and manage IG‑related meetings, events and workgroups to enhance member participation and satisfaction, not just execution.
- Other Responsibilities
- Be flexible and willing to take on additional tasks assigned by management to support SMF’s strategic objectives, particularly those related to membership development and sustainability.
Requirements
- Minimum Degree in Business Management, Marketing, Engineering or related disciplines.
- Proven experience in membership development, business development, sales, or client relationship management.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence members and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to acquire, engage and retain clients or members.
- Strong organizational, analytical and time‑management skills.
- Experience in event or programme planning is an advantage, particularly where used as a member‑engagement tool.
