We are looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join our growing Commercial team and support our fast‑paced projects across the UK.
Responsibilities
- Work with and support Project Management daily, ensuring projects meet commercial and financial targets (payment terms, JCT/NEC, etc).
- Attend monthly project review and CVR meetings and assist with the handover of projects to the Design and Construction teams.
- Support and contribute to the creation of regular and accurate reporting for key stakeholders (CVRs, Cash Flow, Weekly Updates).
- Assist in and carry out valuations for initial, interim and final payment applications.
- Assess and monitor payments for subcontractor and supplier accounts in line with agreed subcontracts and upstream contractual requirements.
- Identify, notify, value and agree on change (variations, compensation events, claims) and flag to the business where cost and GP may be impacted.
- Work with the Commercial Contract Manager to maximise the recovery of all contractual entitlements.
- Lead and participate in the creation and adjustment of processes, documentation and working templates, including rollout for future projects.
- Review and oversee customer and supplier commercial documentation, including PO terms, payment applications, certificates and cash‑flow milestones.
- Support effective cost control by monitoring WIP, approving POs/overspends within governance limits, and assisting procurement activities.
- Manage change by identifying, preparing, submitting and securing agreement for variations, delay notices, contra‑charges and related commercial adjustments.
- Assist Project Managers with commercial elements of supplier and customer claims, disputes and risk management relating to incomplete or omitted works.
- Contribute to monthly and final account processes, including applications for payment, revenue recovery actions and straightforward FA negotiations.
- Participate in project handovers and reviews, and help identify development or training needs within project and commercial teams.
Qualifications & Experience
- Technical or Commercial degree or equivalent experience.
- Proven track record of effectively managing contracts and tenders.
- Experience with NEC & JCT contracts.
- Experience in cost control, cash‑flow management and WIP reporting within construction or utilities environments desirable.
- Strong understanding of the project life cycle, from ownership to completion.
- Good technical understanding of project delivery and pricing within MV/HV works.
- Ability to track delivery against contracted scope of works.
- Excellent organisation and coordination skills.
- Ability to work with multiple teams simultaneously and adapt communication appropriately.
- Excellent coordination and record‑keeping skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal skills and initiative to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Confidence in managing project budgets with accuracy and providing regular commercial forecasts.
- Ability to create and maintain strong collaborative relationships with internal and external clients and supplier counterparts.
