This role involves working with and supporting Project Management daily, ensuring projects meet commercial and financial targets (payment terms, JCT/NEC etc). You will support Project Management through attending monthly project review and CVR meetings and assisting with completion of handover of projects to the Design and Construction teams. You will also support and contribute to the creation of regular and accurate reporting for key stakeholders (CVRs, Cash Flow, Weekly Updates).
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting in and carrying out valuations for the purpose of initial, interim and final payment applications.
- Assessing and monitoring payments for subcontractor and supplier accounts in line with the agreed subcontracts and to align with any upstream contractual requirements.
- Identifying, notifying, valuing and agreeing change (variations, compensation events, claims) and flagging to the business where the agreed cost and consequential GP may be impacted.
- Working with the Commercial Contract Manager to maximise the recovery of all contractual entitlements.
- Actively leading and participating in the creation and adjustment of processes, documentation and working templates, where necessary, including effective rollout for future projects.
- Reviewing and overseeing customer and supplier commercial documentation, including PO terms, payment applications, certificates, and cashflow milestones.
- Supporting effective cost control by monitoring WIP, approving POs/overspends within governance limits, and assisting procurement activities.
- Managing change by identifying, preparing, submitting, and securing agreement for variations, delay notices, contra‑charges, and related commercial adjustments.
- Assisting Project Managers with commercial elements of supplier and customer claims, disputes, and risk management relating to incomplete or omitted works.
- Contributing to monthly and final account processes, including applications for payment, revenue recovery actions, and straightforward FA negotiations.
- Participating in project handovers and reviews, and helping identify development or training needs within project and commercial teams.
Requirements:
- Able to create and maintain strong and collaborative working relationships with internal and external clients and supplier counterparts.
- Confidence in managing project budgets with accuracy of detail – profit and loss and providing regular commercial forecasts.
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to use own initiative as well as work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Excellent coordination and record‑keeping skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work with multiple teams at any one time and adapt communication appropriately.
- Strong understanding of the Project life cycle, from ownership to completion.
- Good technical understanding of project delivery and pricing within MV/HV works.
- Ability to track delivery against contracted scope of works.
- Excellent organisation and coordination skills.
You’ll be a successful Quantity Surveyor at Sinewave if you have:
- A Technical or Commercial degree or equivalent experience.
- A proven track record of effectively managing both contracts and tenders.
- Experience with NEC & JCT contracts and their workings.
- Experience in cost control, cash flow management and WIP reporting within construction or utilities environments – desirable.
- Compliance with all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes, including the anti‑bribery policy, while adhering to the Environmental and Quality Management System in alignment with ISO standards and the requirements of the NERS accreditation.
