Sinara Consultants is actively seeking technically-minded and curious graduates who are interested in a career in DevOps and Application Support and Engineering fields to join our Technical Operations team. The role is an interesting mix of DevOps engineering work on projects within the Tech Ops team and providing technical support for our Sinara-built applications; maintaining our mission-critical applications, infrastructure and delivering application management support to a variety of customers.

This is a shift-based role requiring availability for different shifts including evening and overnight shifts. Applicants should ensure they are comfortable with this. Full training will be provided at the start. The role is remote although you must be based in the UK.

About the Role:

The role entails active monitoring, maintenance, management and incident support of Sinara software applications for our clients. Additionally, the role involves analysing, prioritising, and resolving customer support incidents, which may be for cloud-hosted or on-premise client applications. These incidents could relate to applications, data, or systems. Another facet of the role will be involvement in some of the department’s large-scope projects, for example building internal environments with Kubernetes or implementing AWS security configurations as well as other tasks such as deployments.

A key purpose of the role is to provide technical support 24 hours a day, as such the position involves working beyond standard business hours, on a shift pattern rotating between evenings, overnight and early morning shifts. A two-month initial training period would be during normal daytime hours.

Primary duties include:

  • Systems and Application Management:
    • Ensuring operational performance of our applications and environments
    • Monitoring dashboards
    • Overnight monitoring checks of the internal infrastructure
    • Maintaining our Linux server estate and services
    • Performing routine data or system configuration tasks
    • Deploying, managing and updating AWS services and other cloud platforms
    • Administering containerisation tools and orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes
    • Proactively finding tasks to improve the processes
    • Maintenance of internal infrastructure.
  • Incident Management:
    • Resolving issues related to applications and environments
    • Analysing, prioritising and triaging incidents reported by customers
    • Conducting investigations to provide solutions or temporary workarounds
    • Collaborating with developers upon identification of potential software defects
    • Communicating with customers until incident resolution
    • Transitioning issues to the standard-hours application support team
    • Proactively collaborating in the incidents owned across all teams

Additional responsibilities encompass:

  • Proactively updating support materials
  • Contributing to customer service performance reports
  • Documenting routine change requests
  • Participating in application testing throughout the full test lifecycle

The work is often technically demanding and requires an imaginative thought process. You will collaborate with Sinara’s own software development teams.

The shifts:

A key purpose of the role is to fulfil our duty to provide technical support services for our applications 24 hours a day. As such the position involves working beyond standard business hours. The role joins a team of fellow multi-shift engineers who together seamlessly cover the 24 hours split across 3 shifts spanning evenings, overnight and mornings with a flexible fourth shift during daytime. The shifts rotate on approximately bi-monthly basis and all team members are required to be available to fulfil any shifts (with notice). Currently we support clients 24/5 but we expect this to develop into 24/7 support.
