Sinara Consultants is actively seeking proficient, versatile, and curious application or systems engineers to join our technical operations team. A key purpose of the role is to provide technical support for our Sinara-built applications 24 hours a day, as such the position involves working beyond standard business hours, on a shift pattern rotating between evenings, overnight and early morning shifts with opportunity for some daytime shifts. Your responsibilities will include maintaining our mission-critical applications, delivering both primary and secondary application management support within our cloud-based and on-premise environments, as well as providing third-line technical support for Sinara software applications to a variety of customers. The role is remote although you must be based in the UK.

About the Role: The role entails active monitoring, maintenance and incident support of Sinara software applications for our clients operationally beyond standard business hours. Additionally, the role involves analysing, prioritising, and resolving customer support incidents, which may be for cloud-hosted or on-premise client applications. These incidents could relate to applications, data, or systems. Another facet of the role will be involvement in some of the department’s large-scope projects, for example building internal environments with Kubernetes or implementing AWS security configurations.

Primary duties include:

  • Systems and Application Management:
  • Ensuring operational performance of our applications and environments
  • Monitoring dashboards
  • Overnight monitoring checks of the internal infrastructure
  • Maintaining our Linux server estate and services
  • Performing routine data or system configuration tasks

  • Administering containerisation tools and orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Proactively finding tasks to improve the processes
  • Incident Management:
    • Resolving issues related to applications and environments
    • Analysing, prioritising and triaging incidents reported by customers
    • Conducting investigations to provide solutions or temporary workarounds
    • Collaborating with developers upon identification of potential software defects
    • Communicating with customers until incident resolution
    • Transitioning issues to the standard-hours application support team
    • Proactively collaboration in the incidents of all the members of the team

    Additional responsibilities encompass:

    • Proactively updating support materials
    • Contributing to customer service performance reports
    • Documenting routine change requests
    • Participating in application testing throughout the full test lifecycle
    • Deploying, managing and updating AWS services and other cloud platforms
    • Administering containerisation tools and orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes

The work is often technically demanding and requires an imaginative thought process. You will collaborate with Sinara’s own software development teams.

The shifts: A key purpose of the role is to fulfil our duty to provide technical support services for our applications 24 hours a day. As such the position involves working beyond standard business hours. The role joins a team of fellow multi-shift engineers who together seamlessly cover the 24 hours split across 3 shifts: late evenings (5:30pm to 01:30am), overnight (12:30am to 8:30am) and a flexible third shift overlapping the other two. The shifts rotate on approximately monthly basis and all multi-shift engineers are required to be available to fulfil any shifts with notice. Currently we support clients 24/5 but we expect this to develop into 24/7 support.
