Sinara Consultants are recruiting a Junior Infrastructure Engineer with an interest in both cloud and self-hosted server infrastructure to join our in-house IT team. About the role
This is a varied and challenging role within our IT team to work with our IT Director to manage and maintain the infrastructure described below. It is an opportunity to focus on Cloud infrastructure and become a subject matter expert within the company. The Junior Infrastructure Engineer role will acquire knowledge of system and application software, networking and hardware and so will suit someone with a broad enthusiasm within IT, possibly someone who is looking for a step up in their IT infrastructure career. You will need to communicate both with Sinara’s own users and occasionally with external clients. Such contact will in general be with technically literate users. Extensive training will be provided as required.
Infrastructure: Our development and operational activities require a significant IT infrastructure – in our office, hosted at a major London data centre, and also in the cloud. We use a wide range of technology, including Microsoft Windows, Linux, Hyper V, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, AWS, Azure, and we make extensive use of SQL Server and PostGreSQL databases.
The role will ultimately have a wide range of responsibilities including, but not restricted to, the following tasks:
- Deployment of AWS services and other cloud platforms
- Administration of containerisation tools and orchestration platforms (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
- Maintaining our estate of Linux servers and services
- System Monitoring and Maintenance
- Troubleshooting and Fault Investigation
- User Account Management
- Workstation and Device Configuration
- Data Backup Management
- Maintaining comprehensive documentation for infrastructure configurations and procedures
- Network connectivity
- Workstation and Server Hardware configuration
About you
You may have recently graduated with an IT related degree or technical qualification. You will have an interest in using some or all of the technologies listed above. We will also consider candidates with up to 2 years’ experience in a related field. You must be self-motivated, able to use your own initiative and thrive on learning new technologies and taking ownership of projects to achieve infrastructure objectives. You should be someone who enjoys fixing things, building structure where it is lacking but can also be flexible where necessary to meet the changing needs of the company. You are a practical person with a can-do, hands-on approach to new issues. You can demonstrate some understanding in most of the following areas:
- A broad knowledge of Microsoft system and application software
- A general knowledge of Linux and AWS
- A general knowledge of networking including TCP and DNS
- The ability to learn quickly those concepts with which you are unfamiliar
- Knowledge of Microsoft Azure would be advantageous
