Production Operative — Glass Forming & Packaging

ROLE OVERVIEW

As a Production Operative you will work across both the hot end (glass forming) and cold end (inspection and packing) of our vial and cartridge production lines.

The Production Manager will deploy you based on production requirements, order volumes, and your developing capabilities.

All operatives are trained across all stations before specialising.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES — HOT END (GLASS FORMING)

• Complete all pre-start checks and start up the LVC04 forming line in accordance with the approved SOP.
• Load glass tubing bundles correctly into the tube loader. Verify bundle profile against the loading template before feeding.
• Monitor and record forming temperatures (Zone 1 and Zone 2), gas pressure, conveyor speed, and annealing lehr temperature at minimum every 30 minutes throughout the run.
• Segregate, count, and record all scrap vials / cartridges. Calculate and record yield on the Batch Manufacturing Record (BMR) in real time.
• Report any out-of-tolerance parameter, equipment alarm, or product defect to the Production Technical Manager immediately.

Do not continue production until resolved.

Raise a non-conformance where required.

• Never leave the forming line unattended during production.
• Support QC in-process inspection checks as required.
• Execute mechanical format changeovers: remove, inspect, store, and install tooling sets (chuck inserts, burners, format guides) correctly. QC sign-off required before restart.
• Perform end-of-batch line clearance and cleaning before any new batch or changeover begins.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES — COLD END (INSPECTION, PACKING & DESPATCH)

• Receive finished vials / cartridges from the line output and verify product condition before packing.
• Pack product into the correct secondary packaging with unit counts matching the BMR and production order. No over- or under-count.
• Apply the correct label to every box. Verify batch number, product code, and quantity before sealing.
• Place sealed trays into boxes, palletise completed boxes, and apply shrink wrap to finished pallets correctly and safely.
• Maintain strict batch and format segregation at all times. Do not mix batches or product types.
• Quarantine any damaged, cracked, or suspect vials / cartridges immediately. Label clearly as QUARANTINE — DO NOT USE and notify the Production Technical Manager and QA.
• Record all pack quantities and any discrepancies on the BMR in real time.
• Complete line clearance at the end of every batch — no product, labels, or documentation from the previous batch may remain at the packing station before a new batch starts.
• GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maintain correct labelling and segregation of all product, intermediate product, and materials at all times.
• Keep your work area clean and tidy throughout the shift in line with GMP housekeeping requirements.
• Wear correct PPE at all times.
• Report any safety concern, near miss, or handling damage without delay.
• Complete BMR entries as activities occur. Back-filling records is not permitted.
• Attend GMP training, read-and-understand sessions, and competence assessments as required.
• To carry out such other duties as may be required to achieve the overall purpose of the job.

ESSENTIAL

• Hands-on experience in a production, manufacturing, or warehousing environment.
• Able to follow SOPs, work instructions, and batch records accurately and consistently.
• Good attention to detail — able to identify product defects, labelling errors, and process drift.
• Comfortable working to documented procedures in a regulated environment.
• Reliable, punctual, and a strong team contributor.
• Sufficient written English to complete production records clearly and accurately.
• Sufficient spoken English to communicate production performance clearly and accurately.

DESIRABLE

• Experience in glass, pharmaceutical, food, or medical device manufacturing.
• Familiarity with GMP, ISO 9001, or equivalent quality management systems.
• Experience on automated forming, converting, or packing lines.
• Manual handling and pallet operations experience.
• TRAINING

Full site induction and training will be provided across all production stations — hot end forming, cold end packing, palletising, GMP documentation, ISO 15378 awareness, and health and safety.

Competence is assessed at each station before independent operation.

All training records are maintained in the company QMS.

Salary will be reviewed after the first 3 months in line with performance and the Production Manager's assessment.
