Are you an experienced Account Manager who enjoys building strong customer relationships within technical manufacturing environments? Do you thrive in a role where you can act as the link between customer needs and tailored engineering solutions, helping clients improve performance through bespoke machinery and automation?

SimWest is working in partnership with a well-established engineering business that designs and supplies specialist food processing equipment and automation systems to customers across the UK and Ireland. As part of their continued growth strategy, they are now looking to appoint an Account Manager to take ownership of key customer relationships while also identifying opportunities to expand business within existing and new accounts.

This is a home-based, customer-facing position offering a high degree of autonomy. Supporting customers across the UK and Ireland, you will take responsibility for managing relationships, understanding operational challenges, and helping develop commercially viable machinery solutions in collaboration with internal technical teams. This opportunity would suit someone who is commercially aware, technically credible, and confident managing a sales cycle that is consultative rather than transactional.

Key Focus of the Role

The successful Account Manager will be responsible for maintaining and developing established client relationships, while also helping generate new opportunities within food and FMCG manufacturing businesses. The role will be weighted towards account development, with a focus on nurturing long-term partnerships, increasing customer spend, and identifying projects where bespoke equipment can add operational value.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and develop a portfolio of existing customer accounts across the UK and Ireland
  • Build strong working relationships with decision-makers across engineering, operations, and production
  • Understand customer processes, challenges, and future plans in order to identify suitable solutions
  • Work closely with internal engineering teams to help shape tailored proposals
  • Support customers through the full project journey, from initial discussions through to order placement
  • Identify opportunities to increase revenue within existing accounts while also opening doors with new customers
  • Maintain regular contact with customers through site visits, meetings, and follow-up activity
  • Represent the business professionally in the market and act as a trusted point of contact
  • Travel across the UK and Ireland as required, with occasional visits to the company’s head office
About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to be comfortable operating in a technical sales environment where solutions are bespoke and customer needs are often complex. You may already be working as an Account Manager, Technical Account Manager, Business Development Manager, Sales Engineer, or in a similar commercially focused role within engineering or machinery-led sectors.

Requirements
  • Previous experience in account management, technical sales, or customer-facing commercial roles within engineering, machinery, automation, or capital equipment
  • A proven ability to manage long-term customer relationships and grow accounts strategically
  • Experience selling tailored or project-led solutions rather than standard catalogue products
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of value-led solution selling
  • Self-motivated and organised, with the ability to manage your own diary and priorities
  • Comfortable travelling across the UK and Ireland as part of a home-based role
  • Experience within food manufacturing, processing, or FMCG would be beneficial, although other relevant technical sectors will also be considered
What’s on Offer
  • Basic salary aligned with senior Account Manager / Technical Sales roles within bespoke machinery and capital equipment environments
  • Commission structure linked to project and equipment sales
  • Car allowance/Company Car
  • Home-based role with flexibility and autonomy
  • Established customer base with repeat business and long-term growth potential
  • Opportunity to join a stable and respected engineering business
  • Collaborative working environment with strong internal technical support

SimWest is managing this vacancy on an exclusive basis. If you have the commercial skills to develop customer relationships within a bespoke machinery or technical solutions environment, we would be interested in hearing from you.
