This Mechanical Fitter / Mechanical Assembler role will focus on the mechanical assembly and build of bespoke machinery, working from initial build through to completion. You will be involved in proper hands-on fitting work, including sub-assembly, full machinery build, component installation, mechanical adjustment, alignment, and final build work.

The role

  • As a Mechanical Fitter / Mechanical Assembler, you will be involved in the mechanical build and assembly of bespoke production and process machinery.
  • Building and assembling bespoke machinery and production equipment from engineering drawings.
  • Carrying out mechanical fitting, hand fitting, assembly, alignment, and adjustment work.
  • Building sub-assemblies through to complete machinery assemblies.
  • Installing and fitting mechanical components including shafts, gears, sprockets, bearings, gearboxes, and drive systems.
  • Setting clearances, checking alignment, and making mechanical adjustments to ensure correct operation.
  • Using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment including Verniers, height gauges, and similar inspection tools.
  • Modifying or adjusting components where required to achieve the correct fit and finish.
  • Working to high standards of accuracy, workmanship, and mechanical build quality.
  • Supporting machinery refurbishment, rebuild, and modification projects when required.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience in mechanical fitting, machinery assembly, machine building, bench fitting, or mechanical build work.
  • Experience building, fitting, assembling, or installing machinery, production equipment, or mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Experience working with shafts, bearings, gearboxes, drive systems, or mechanical components/assemblies.
  • Confident use of hand tools and power tools.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment.
  • A good eye for detail and pride in quality workmanship.
  • The ability to work as part of a hands-on machinery build team.
  • Experience with bespoke machinery, process machinery, production machinery, conveyors, automated equipment, special purpose machinery, or heavy mechanical systems would be highly relevant.
