An established engineering manufacturer based in Blackburn is recruiting for an experienced Design Engineer to support the design and development of industrial heat transfer systems and pressure vessels. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of engineering projects, the company is investing in the expansion of its in-house design capability. This role has been created to support increasing workload and long-term development, offering the opportunity to join the business during a genuinely busy and progressive period.
This role is well suited to a Mechanical Design Engineer with strong technical knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, steam systems, and pressure equipment, working within regulated industrial environments.
The Role
As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the mechanical design of industrial heat transfer systems and pressure vessels, working across the full design lifecycle from initial concept and engineering calculations through to detailed drawings and manufacturing support. You will collaborate closely with fabrication, welding, and project teams to ensure designs are practical, compliant, and fit for manufacture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mechanical design of heat transfer systems and pressure vessels
- Producing and checking detailed engineering design calculations
- Applying thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics principles
- Designing systems involving steam flow, pressure, and control principles
- Creating 3D CAD models and detailed manufacturing drawings
- Ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards
Required Experience & Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles
- Solid understanding of heat transfer systems
- Good knowledge of thermodynamics and fluid dynamics
- Experience working with steam systems, including steam flow, pressure, and controls
- Knowledge of recognised codes and standards, such as: ASME, TEMA, PD5500
- Experience producing accurate design calculations
- Good understanding of welding and manufacturing principles
- Strong 3D CAD experience using SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or similar
