Our Public Law area is highly renowned across the country which gives us access to referrers of high-quality work. We’re a Chambers and Legal 500 ranked firm within this specialist area of law, so you’re going to be working alongside fellow experts in their field.

Our civil claims work covers claims for compensation for breaches of human rights, negligence and/or breaches of law by state bodies including local authorities, police, prisons, detention centres, NHS Trusts, CCGs and care homes.

We are looking for someone with significant experience in claims against public authorities work, ideally with an emphasis on actions against the police and other detaining authorities. A specialism in inquest work would be a bonus.

You’ll need to have access to contacts and referrers of work in order to really add additional value to the work of the team and also need to meet the supervisor standard for the Legal Aid Agency’s CAPA contract.

In return there’s a competitive basic salary, which will align with your experience plus bonus and a strong benefits package. We work flexibly and have a hybrid working arrangement which will work to suit you and your team.

You’ll work with industry experts who work on high-profile cases and can help to shape and develop your career, giving you the coaching and mentoring that will allow you to flourish, and your caseload will be interesting and importantly manageable.

We’re lawyers who exist to help people with their legal needs today and to improve the way the law works for people in the future. We provide trusted expert legal advice, quickly and clearly, every time.

There is change going on within the legal industry and in our firm too, so we need people who are adaptable to this, who embrace change and see the opportunity. The future of our business is one that is technology and data driven, so we need people who have the mindset and technological expertise to grow with us.

If the above sounds like something you’d excel at and be interested in, we’d like to hear from you.

Diversity and Inclusion: At Simpson Millar we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your previous experience doesn’t align perfectly with every element in the advert, we encourage you to apply anyway.
