Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to lead our Personal Injury Department as Head of Department. This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading firm, contributing to the growth and development of our Personal Injury practice while maintaining compliance and business development standards. The role involves oversight of the department’s operations, strategic direction, and potentially managing a small caseload of multi-track personal injury cases. You will work closely with the Director of Legal Services to implement key initiatives, ensuring the team achieves both compliance and business growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Management: Lead and manage the Personal Injury department, ensuring the team provides exceptional service to clients while meeting targets and operational standards.

Compliance Oversight: Maintain a strong focus on regulatory compliance, including adhering to legal and ethical standards set by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), and ensuring the department is fully compliant with relevant legislation.

Business Development: Identify and implement business development strategies to enhance the department’s profile and profitability. Build relationships with existing clients and potential clients, establishing new sources of business.

Multi-track Caseload: Manage and provide expert guidance on a small but complex caseload of multi-track personal injury cases, ensuring that each case is handled effectively from inception to conclusion.

Strategy & Growth: Collaborate with the Director to develop and implement the long-term strategy for the department, identifying opportunities for growth and development, both internally and in the market.

Team Development & Mentorship: Provide leadership and mentorship to the personal injury team, ensuring that team members are supported in their professional growth and development. Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performance working environment.

Client Care & Communication: Ensure that the department delivers excellent client care, maintaining strong relationships and ensuring effective communication with clients throughout their case journey.

Reporting: Regularly report to the Director on department performance, business development activities, compliance matters, and the status of ongoing cases.

Risk Management: Proactively identify and address potential risks in the department’s operations, particularly regarding compliance, client issues, and case management.

Experience:

At least 5 years of experience in Personal Injury law, with a proven track record of managing multi-track cases. Previous experience in a leadership or management role is essential.

Compliance Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of legal compliance requirements in Personal Injury law, including regulations set by the SRA and the Claims Management Regulator.

Business Development: Strong business acumen and experience in generating new business opportunities, with a focus on growing a legal practice.

Leadership Skills: Proven leadership abilities, with experience managing and developing teams.

Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders.

Technical Competence: Proficient in case management systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and other legal software tools

Qualities: Highly organised, with a strategic mindset and a commitment to delivering high standards of service.

Preferred:

A qualified solicitor or equivalent in Personal Injury law.

Prior experience managing a multi-track caseload in a personal injury practice.
