A leading, well-established regional law firm is seeking an experienced Head of Private Client to lead and develop its highly regarded Private Client department in Birmingham. This is a senior leadership role offering the opportunity to take ownership of a growing practice, shape strategy, and drive continued expansion across wills, trusts, probate, and high-value estate planning work.
As Head of Private Client, you will take responsibility for the overall leadership, performance, and strategic direction of the department. You will manage a high-quality caseload while also playing a key role in business development and team leadership.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the Private Client department and setting strategic direction
- Managing a varied caseload including complex wills, trusts, probate, estate administration, and tax planning matters
- Advising high-net-worth individuals, business owners, and families on succession and wealth protection
- Driving business development initiatives and strengthening existing client relationships
- Building relationships with key referrers including accountants, financial advisers, and wealth managers
- Managing, mentoring, and developing junior lawyers and support staff
- Supporting cross-departmental collaboration with corporate, property, and family teams
- Ensuring high standards of technical quality, compliance, and client service
- Contributing to the overall growth and profitability of the wider firm
About You
The ideal candidate will be:
- A qualified Solicitor in England & Wales (or equivalent) with significant Private Client experience
- Likely at Partner level, or a Senior Associate ready for a step up into leadership
- Technically strong across wills, trusts, probate, and tax planning
- Experienced in advising high-net-worth and complex estate clients
- Commercially minded with a track record of business development
- A confident leader who enjoys developing and growing a team
- Strong communicator with excellent client relationship skills
