We are a growing boutique law firm who specialises in Employment Law seeking an experienced Operations / Practice Manager to lead the day-to-day running of the firm. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for ensuring the firm operates efficiently, compliantly, and profitably while supporting partners and staff to deliver exceptional client service.
The successful candidate will bring strong operational leadership, commercial awareness, and experience within a legal or professional services environment.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the day-to-day operational running of the firm, ensuring efficient, professional and compliant business support across all departments.
- Work closely with partners to deliver strategic and operational objectives, supporting sustainable growth and profitability.
- Produce and analyse management information, KPIs and performance reports to support decision-making.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting in collaboration with external accountants.
- Manage billing, WIP, credit control and cash-flow processes to improve financial performance.
- Support pricing, cost management and profitability monitoring across teams and matters.
- Ensure the firm meets SRA, AML, GDPR and other regulatory requirements.
- Maintain policies, procedures, file audits and risk management frameworks.
- Manage complaints handling and regulatory reporting processes.
- Oversee HR operations including recruitment, onboarding, performance management and training.
- Support partners in building a positive, collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Proven experience as an Operations Manager, Practice Manager, or Office Manager within a law firm or professional services environment.
- Strong understanding of SRA compliance and legal practice operations.
- Financial management experience including budgeting and reporting.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience implementing systems, processes, or operational improvements.
- Experience in a law firm
- Knowledge of legal case management systems and legal tech tools.
- Commercially minded and proactive.
- Hands-on and comfortable working in a small, collaborative team.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
- Confident communicator who can work with senior stakeholders.
- Solutions-focused with a continuous improvement mindset.
