The Project Director is responsible for leading the end-to-end development, engineering, procurement, construction and completion of utility-scale BESS and Gas Peaking projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget and safely. This role also involves managing a large portfolio of projects, maintaining full visibility across their performance, and leading the delivery function in close relationships with the COO, the CTO and the rest of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and develop detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets for BESS/Gas Peaking projects, ensuring alignment with planning and organisational goals with the wider team.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of delivery from initial feasibility through construction, commissioning and handover into the operational team.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and other stakeholders, ensuring transparent communication and effective collaboration throughout each project phase.
  • Manage cross‑functional teams, including engineers, procurement specialists, and construction crews, to optimise resource utilisation and drive project milestones.
  • Ensure all projects meet industry standards and comply with local and national regulations related to safety, environmental impact, etc., monitoring KPIs set for the Delivery Team and ensuring consistent performance across the portfolio.
  • Identify potential risks, develop mitigation strategies, and manage contingencies to maintain project continuity, including escalation and prioritisation of key risks across multiple projects.
  • Monitor project quality standards and conduct regular inspections to ensure high-performance outcomes and adherence to best practices in installation.
  • Provide timely updates to the COO/CEO/CTO/CFO, maintain accurate project documentation, and prepare reports on project progress, risks, and financial performance.
  • Maintain strong experience in CDM, Civil and/or Electrical tender documentation, EPC and supplier contracts.
Key Requirements
  • Degree in Engineering, Project Management, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
  • Demonstrable years of project experience in energy project management, direct experience of utility scale BESS and Gas Peaking.
  • Track record in managing large‑scale renewable energy or HV EPC projects; solid knowledge of BESS, power electronics (PCS, BMS) and HV systems.
  • Project Management certifications (examples: APM, APMG, CMO, PMP, IOSH).
  • Strong organisational skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel or MS Projects), and familiarity with project management software.
  • Strong understanding of battery storage and gas reciprocating engines, electrical engineering principles, understanding of renewable energy development processes, grid connections and excellent proficiency with project management tools and methodologies.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment whilst maintaining a high level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion.
  • Ability to manage high‑performing engineering and construction teams to meet budgets and timeframes, and willingness to travel between project sites when required.
  • Strong working knowledge of various tendering strategies, contractor management and legal frameworks; experience with contract types.
  • Good understanding of finance beneficial for discussions with the CFO on project financing (P2).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external parties.
