The Role
Your mission is to support a safety and licensing manager in the management of nuclear safety on a critical project. . We are seeking an experienced Nuclear Safety Case Senior Engineer to develop and maintain the production of safety cases for a major nuclear project in the UK. This role is crucial to the success of our project and ensuring high levels of regulatory compliance and maintaining the highest standards of nuclear safety.
The majority of the project activities will take place in UK where the site is located and with limited travels to France or Germany.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop the overall safety case assessment process (in the form of license condition arrangements, handbook etc.) and detailed planning schedule, identifying the requisite safety assessments, governance process and timing.
- Author the technical specification for preparing the Preliminary Safety Report (PSR) and Pre-Construction Safety Report (PCSR).
- Author specifications for undertaking specific safety assessments supporting the PSR and PCSR.
- Coordinate with technical specialists, engineers, and operations teams across the wider business to gather input data for safety assessments.
- Ensure identification of relevant safety features, devices, systems and circuits (SFDSC) that are important to nuclear safety and providing advice to the Company / project on the treatment and implementation of SFDSC.
- Develop and ensure the requisite processes for undertaking Design Reviews, HAZIDs, HAZOPs and HASANs are adequate.
- Author safety assessments and reports reflecting oneβs own capabilities and time constraints.
- Provide subject matter expert guidance on nuclear safety matters to the project, company senior management and relevant stakeholders.
- Identifying relevant nuclear safety (case) learning and established processes from elsewhere in the group for implementing in the project.
- Manage the safety case modification process (during construction), including impact assessments and change control during construction.
- Liaise with ONR and represent the organisation during the licensing on the safety case assessment process.
Accountabilities
- Development of a company (project) safety case methodology that is proportionate to the hazards associated with the project, but suitable and sufficient to ensure safety.
- Production and maintenance of safety case documentation, either prepared by themselves or prepared by others / contractors / consultants according to the Company / project safety case methodology, ensuring it meets regulatory expectations and industry best practices.
Key Requirements
- You will have a demonstrable record of delivering a range of nuclear safety cases through authoring, contract management of third parity delivery:
- Demonstrable experience in the delivery of safety cases in an authoring role.
- Strong experience in the setting to work of safety consultants, developing specifications and scopes of work, developing safety case methodologies and assessment strategies.
- Will be established senior level in their current employment one or more specific areas of safety analysis e.g. human factors, shielding, criticality and with a good understanding of these other topics.
- Experience of the treatment of non-nuclear (conventional hazards) in safety cases preferred.
- Experienced in safety assessment governance, challenge and review and regulator liaison.
