Our Client is a marine power pioneer, leading the development of advanced technology for commercial shipping and maritime applications. Our Client is recruiting for a highly motivated and skilled Principal Electrical Power Systems Engineer to join their London based dynamic team. You will support the design development of the Balance of Plant systems including electrical power generation and distribution as well as data electronics and communications systems required for our Client’s floating projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background and experience in electrical power design and data electronics in both marine and nuclear industries. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to lead technically in an emerging market.
Role and responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to the following:
- Responsible for electrical power systems design including load balancing calculations, power budget allocations and physical architecture development.
- Responsible for data distribution and communications systems design including physical architecture development and interface configuration.
- Responsible for producing Statements of Work for procurement of technical services.
- Liaising with stakeholders; designers, classification societies, regulators, nuclear technology developers to manage designs against evolving requirements.
- Authoring high quality technical reports, calculations, and academic papers.
- Performing first-principle engineering calculations to investigate feasibility of high-level design concepts.
- Supporting the Marine Engineers and Nuclear Engineers with the electrical and data integration of Floating Nuclear Power Plants.
Knowledge and experience required:
- Masters Degree in electrical engineering, Electronic Engineering or relevant equivalent.
- A PhD in science, technology, engineering or mathematics is highly desirable.
- Proven experience in the Marine industry.
- Experience in both the marine and nuclear industry is highly desirable.
- Direct experience in multidisciplinary design projects in the Marine and/or Nuclear industry.
- Experience in writing or supporting work specifications for technical service providers.
- Good understanding of balance of plant interfaces and application in the Marine and/or Nuclear industry.
- Comfortable with technical artefact development (Block Flow Diagrams, Process Flow Diagrams, Bill of Materials etc) as well as conducting and verifying dynamic simulations.
- Critical thinking skills and ability to manage design uncertainties.
- Practitioner with electrical Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and proficient with mechanical CAD software, preferably SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD.
- Able to articulate technical issues in a clear concise way.
- Good understanding of risk management in design.
- Excellent project management and organisational skills.
- Knowledge of the qualification of new technology is highly desirable.
