Are you an experienced Operations Manager who enjoys being close to the action rather than managing everything from behind a desk? Bristol Van Removals is growing, and we’re looking for a hands-on operational leader to strengthen our day-to-day operation, develop our teams and help build the systems, processes and standards needed for the next stage of our growth. This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of the operation, influence how the business develops and become a key part of the leadership team.
What’s in It for You?
- £40,000 salary
- Opportunity to shape and improve a growing operation
- Genuine influence over systems, processes and operational standards
- Long-term progression as the business continues to grow
- Opportunity to develop Team Leaders and operational staff
- High-trust environment with real responsibility
- Company pension
- Company events
The Role
This is a hands-on operational leadership position combining people management, problem-solving and continuous improvement. You’ll spend time both in the office and within the operation, supporting teams, solving problems and ensuring the business delivers consistently high standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing daily removals operations
- Leading and supporting Team Leaders and operational staff
- Managing fleet readiness, equipment and operational resources
- Running morning operations and ensuring teams are prepared for the day
- Resolving customer escalations and operational issues
- Supporting recruitment, onboarding, coaching and staff development
- Conducting meetings, performance reviews and disciplinary processes where required
- Monitoring KPIs, operational performance and trends
- Improving communication between office and operational teams
- Developing systems, processes and standards as the business grows
- Visiting jobs where additional leadership or technical support is required
- Supporting crews with complex removals challenges where necessary
You may also be required to drive company vehicles or provide additional operational support when circumstances require it.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from experienced Operations Managers, Transport Managers, Depot Managers, Removals Managers and other operational leaders who have managed vehicles, crews and field-based teams.
You should have:
- Significant removals experience, or strong transport, logistics or field-operations experience
- Experience directly managing drivers, crews or operational teams
- Proven leadership and people-management experience
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- The ability to remain calm and organised under pressure
- Strong communication skills
- A professional and proactive approach
- A full UK driving licence
- A willingness to be visible within the operation and lead from the front
Experience in any of the following would be particularly valuable:
- Removals management
- CPC qualification or Transport Management knowledge
- Developing Team Leaders and operational staff
- Implementing operational systems and process improvements
- Managing customer escalations and operational emergencies
Coming from Transport or Logistics Rather Than Removals?
That’s absolutely fine. If you’re new to the removals industry, you’ll spend an initial period working alongside our removals teams so you can properly understand the operation, our customers and the challenges our crews face. We believe this gives our managers the practical knowledge and credibility they need to lead effectively.
What Success Looks Like
You’ll help us:
- Improve operational control and organisation
- Reduce operational issues and unnecessary firefighting
- Improve punctuality, standards and accountability
- Develop stronger Team Leaders
- Improve communication between office and operational teams
- Deliver a consistently high level of customer service
- Build a scalable operational structure that supports future growth
