We are looking for an Ink Technician to work on a permanent basis for a global client based in the Wigan area. Salary is £32,200 per annum plus overtime, 22 days' holiday and bank holidays, pension, healthcare, company shutdown at Christmas etc.

Duties for the Ink Technician:

  • As an Ink Technician, you'll be responsible for producing and maintaining high-quality inks to meet production requirements while ensuring all work is completed safely and in line with quality standards.
  • You'll work closely with the production team to ensure customer colour specifications are achieved and production downtime is kept to a minimum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and mix inks accurately to production specifications.
  • Ensure inks are produced right first time using approved recipes and colour standards.
  • Manage and reuse returned inks where appropriate to minimise waste.
  • Operate in accordance with Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality standards.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives, including 5S and continuous improvement activities.
  • Use colour measurement and quality control equipment to maintain colour accuracy.
  • Record ink usage and returns within the production system.
  • Assist production teams with on-press colour adjustments when required.
  • Support stock control, ink deliveries and inventory checks.
  • Assist with maintaining ink room equipment and solvent recovery systems.

Person specification for the Ink Technician role:

  • Previous experience within a print, packaging or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with colour matching and print inks.
  • Knowledge of colour measurement equipment (such as X-Rite systems) is desirable.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles.
  • Experience working to quality, health, safety and environmental standards.
  • Forklift Truck licence preferred (training can be provided).
  • Good communication skills with a good standard of written and spoken English.
  • Physically fit, as the role involves lifting and manual handling.

Shift Pattern:

  • This role operates on a rotating 12-hour shift pattern over a four-week cycle:
  • Week 1 – 4 Night Shifts, 3 Days Off
  • Week 2 – 3 Day Shifts, 1 Day Off, 3 Night Shifts
  • Week 3 – 3 Days Off, 4 Day Shifts
  • Week 4 – 7 Days Off
