We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Technician to join a well-established FMCG manufacturing operation in the Skelmersdale area. The role is working Days Monday - Friday. Salary is c£50,000 per annum (negotiable, depending on experience) plus 27 days' holiday and bank holidays, excellent pension, company bonus etc.
Duties for the Mechanical Maintenance Engineer:
- This is a hands-on days-based position supporting the ongoing reliability, maintenance, and performance of production equipment across a busy manufacturing site.
- The successful candidate will play a key role in planned maintenance activities, continuous improvement projects, and ensuring machinery operates efficiently with minimal downtime.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out planned preventative and reactive mechanical maintenance across site.
- Support production teams with fault finding and breakdown resolution.
- Assist in driving machinery reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Work with maintenance planning systems to manage and record engineering activities.
- Ensure all work is completed in line with health & safety and quality standards.
- Support contractor activities and assist with equipment installations and commissioning.
- Mentor and support junior engineers and apprentices where required.
- Maintain high workshop and housekeeping standards.
Candidate Requirements:
- Completed a recognised mechanical or multi-skilled engineering apprenticeship.
- NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds or equivalent engineering qualification.
- Previous experience within manufacturing, FMCG, heavy industry, or process environments.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and maintenance experience.
- Experience working on automated production equipment, hydraulics, pumps, conveyors, rotating equipment, or similar machinery.
- Ability to prioritise workloads and work independently or as part of a team.
- Experience using CMMS/SAP systems would be advantageous.
