We are recruiting for an Electrical Maintenance Engineer to work on a permanent basis near Halewood in Liverpool. The role works Monday to Friday from 7am to 3pm. Salary is £41,200 per annum plus 23 days’ holiday and bank holidays, company pension, life assurance, etc.

Duties for the Electrical Maintenance Engineer

  • To support the maintenance and reliability of all plant equipment and site facilities, including accurate use and updating of the CMMS system.
  • The role involves carrying out reactive repairs and completing planned preventative maintenance (PPM), with responsibility for ensuring all follow‑up actions are completed.
  • The position also includes involvement in root cause analysis (RCA) activities and project work as required, along with regular communication with supervisors and managers across maintenance and operations.
  • The role includes participation in an on‑call rota (approximately one in four, subject to change depending on team size), providing cover across multiple sites. A company vehicle is provided while on call.

Key Responsibilities for the Electrical Maintenance Engineer

  • Health, Safety & Compliance
    • Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant working environment in line with health & safety, food safety, and environmental standards.
    • Ensure all tasks are carried out in accordance with current HSE legislation and internal procedures.
    • Assist in the creation and review of risk assessments and safe systems of work.
    • Maintain engineering work areas to a high GMP standard.
  • Maintenance & Engineering Duties
    • Perform planned preventative maintenance on a range of machinery and equipment, including motors, engines, pneumatic systems, conveyors, and production assets.
    • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimise operational downtime.
    • Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using appropriate diagnostic methods and tools.
    • Strip down, repair, and reassemble equipment, replacing faulty components as required.
    • Adjust and maintain machinery and control systems to ensure efficient and reliable operation.
    • Inspect and measure components using precision tools (e.g. callipers, micrometres) to assess wear and tolerances.
  • Fabrication & Technical Skills
    • Manufacture and repair components using workshop equipment and tools.
    • Welding experience is advantageous but not essential.
    • Interpret technical drawings, manuals, and engineering specifications to support maintenance tasks.
  • Communication & Teamwork
    • Work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
    • Clearly communicate faults, progress updates, and estimated repair times.
    • Ensure effective shift handovers by recording work completed, outstanding issues, and required actions.
  • Stock & Resource Management
    • Monitor and maintain appropriate stock levels of spare parts, tools, and consumables.
    • Assist with the ordering and verification of parts and equipment.
    • Use materials and resources efficiently to minimise waste and manage costs.
  • Continuous Improvement & Development
    • Maintain current technical knowledge through training and development activities.
    • Provide technical input and support to wider teams as required.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and team performance objectives.

Person Specification for the Electrical Maintenance Engineer

  • Apprenticeship‑trained engineer or equivalent qualification, with a multi‑skilled background and an electrical bias.
  • Good understanding of health & safety legislation and safe working practices.
  • Practical knowledge and application of Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
  • Experience with CMMS systems, fault‑finding techniques, and structured reporting.
  • Ability to follow planned maintenance schedules and respond effectively to breakdown situations.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving capability.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Competent in the use of hand and power tools.
  • High attention to detail, with a focus on maintaining strong standards in both reactive and preventative maintenance.
