We are recruiting for a Bid Manager to work on a permanent basis for a large engineering company based in Chorley / Hybrid. The role is working Monday to Thursday (with Friday, Saturday and Sunday as weekend). Salary is c£45-55,000 per annum plus 25 days' holiday and bank holidays, pension, healthcare etc.
Duties for the Bid Manager
We’re seeking an experienced Bid Manager to lead the preparation and delivery of high-quality, commercially robust tender submissions. You’ll manage the full bid lifecycle — from opportunity identification through to submission and handover — ensuring proposals are compliant, compelling, and aligned with business strategy. Working collaboratively across business development, engineering, and delivery teams, you’ll coordinate inputs, manage deadlines, and shape winning proposals that showcase our technical strengths, innovation, and commitment to excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end tender and proposal activities, ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality submissions.
- Collaborate with internal teams to make informed bid / no-bid decisions and develop strong win themes.
- Lead and mentor a small bid team, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Oversee bid content development, including proposal letters, executive summaries, and tender responses.
- Ensure all submissions meet technical and commercial requirements and reflect best practice.
- Maintain and enhance a central bid library for use in future tenders and RFQs.
- Support accurate financial and performance reporting against business targets.
- Represent the company at client meetings and industry events.

Essential Skills & Experience for the Bid Manager role
- 3–5 years’ experience in bid, tender, or proposals management.

- Strong attention to detail, organisation, and time management.
- Confident collaborating across technical, commercial, and delivery functions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
Desirable
- APMP Certification or willingness to work towards it.
- Experience working within engineering, construction, or technical services sectors.
Other Requirements
- Willingness to undergo security screening (SC or equivalent).
- Flexibility to work extended hours to meet bid deadlines when required.
