The predicted salary is between 45 - 60 £ per hour.

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to work on a long term contract on a remote basis with occasional visits to Glasgow. Our client is seeking a candidate with a strong background in Nuclear and/or Defense. Rate is c£60-70 Umbrella per hour (or PAYE equivalent).

About the Electrical Engineer role:

The position is responsible for the authorship, development, assessment, maintenance, and management of a full suite of Nuclear Infrastructure Design Substantiation documentation. The role also provides technical governance across design changes, concessions, and safety-related engineering activities within a high-hazard environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES for the Electrical Engineer:

  • Author, develop, assess, maintain, and manage a suite of nuclear infrastructure design substantiation documents.
  • Author, assess, and manage design changes and concessions across the project lifecycle.
  • Present design substantiation materials to internal nuclear safety and due-process committees.
  • Produce and develop Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing (EIMT) schedules, operating procedures, and results to support design intent and safety case requirements throughout asset life.
  • Produce and/or assess Periodic Review of Safety (PRS) reports.
  • Provide technical advice and direction to internal and external stakeholders, including engineering, safety, and project delivery teams.
  • Develop scopes of work for Independent Technical Assessments (ITA) and Independent Peer Reviews (IPR).
  • Apply a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge to utilise existing and emerging technologies.
  • Apply appropriate theoretical and practical engineering methods across design, development, manufacture, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance, decommissioning, and recycling of systems and assets within a nuclear or high-risk setting.
  • Produce robust technical justifications to support the authorisation of electrical design modifications within a high-hazard industry.
  • Review technical reports and safety case submissions produced by external contractors.
  • Check and review calculations and technical documents produced by other engineering staff.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS for the Electrical Engineer:

Experience (Essential):

  • Experienced Electrical Engineer with knowledge of industrial plant and machinery in both HV and LV environments (e.g., pumps, generators, lightning protection, control systems).
  • Strong understanding of current design standards and working practices, including British and European Standards.
  • Theoretical and practical experience across concept design, detailed design, and construction stages for electrical engineering projects, ideally within industrial and/or maritime environments.
  • Experience assessing electrical plant and equipment for hazard withstand capability.
  • Demonstrated capability in authoring robust technical justifications and supporting documentation to enable approval of electrical design modifications within a high-hazard industry.
  • Experience working on multi-discipline engineering projects and providing integrated electrical engineering input.

Experience (Desirable):

  • Prior experience within nuclear, defence, or comparable high-hazard regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with safety case development tools and methodologies (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP).
  • Experience within the UK nuclear industry (civil or defence), particularly in the design and assessment of safety-related structures, systems, and components.
  • Knowledge of UK and US nuclear regulatory frameworks and associated nuclear-specific codes and standards.
