Are you an experienced Bookkeeper looking for a role where you can take ownership of the finance function and really make an impact?
We're working with a growing, well-established business in Gloucester that is looking for a confident and organised Head Bookkeeper / Company Accountant to join its friendly team.
This is a fantastic opportunity to become a key part of a successful SME, working closely with the Directors and taking responsibility for the day-to-day accounts, financial reporting and supporting the continued growth of the business.
The Role
You'll be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the finance function, with duties including:
- Managing day-to-day bookkeeping using Xero
- Processing sales and purchase invoices, expenses and bank reconciliations
- Managing CIS returns, subcontractor payments and deductions
- Preparing VAT returns, including domestic reverse charge
- Producing monthly management accounts, P&L reports and cash flow summaries
- Monitoring aged debtors, creditors and payment schedules
- Managing project costs, retentions and contract profitability
- Processing payroll journals and supporting payroll activities
- Preparing financial information and reports for the Directors
- Maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring HMRC compliance
About You
We're looking for someone who is confident managing a busy accounts function and enjoys having responsibility for their own workload.
Ideally, you'll have:
- Previous experience in a Bookkeeper, Senior Bookkeeper or Company Accountant role
- Strong working knowledge of Xero
- Experience with CIS and construction industry accounting
- Good understanding of VAT, including domestic reverse charge
- Experience preparing management accounts and financial reports
- Strong Excel skills and excellent attention to detail
- AAT Level 4 qualification or equivalent experience (desirable)
- A proactive, organised and hands-on approach
Experience within construction, property services, engineering or a similar project-based environment would be particularly beneficial.
