About the Role

This is not your average Sports Coach role - it’s a chance to be a positive role model, calm presence, and consistent support for pupils who need it most. As a Sports Coach, you’ll use structured physical activity to support emotional regulation and engagement.

You’ll work closely with pupils who may display challenging behaviour, using physical activity and structured engagement to help them regulate emotions, build resilience, and re-engage with learning. Every day is different, fast-paced, and genuinely rewarding for a committed Sports Coach. This temporary to permanent opportunity is ideal for a Sports Coach who thrives on challenges.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups
  • Delivering structured physical and sports-based activities to support engagement and emotional regulation
  • Using recognised de-escalation strategies to manage challenging behaviour
  • Supporting learning activities across the curriculum where appropriate
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals
  • Helping to maintain a calm, safe, and supportive learning environment

You’ll play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, teamwork, and personal development across the school.

The successful Sports Coach must hold current training in de-escalation and behaviour management, including at least one of the following: Team Teach, MAPA / Skip Training, PRICE Training.

The ideal Sports Coach is calm under pressure, resilient, and genuinely passionate about supporting vulnerable young people. You may come from a background in:

  • SEMH or SEND education
  • Sports coaching or physical education
  • Youth work or mentoring
  • Care or behaviour support
