Maths Teacher - SEMH School Stoke-on-Trent | Full-Time | Long-Term to Permanent | Start September PAY TO SCALE PLUS SEN ALLOWANCE

Teach Maths. Change Lives. Rediscover Why You Became a Teacher. Not every Maths teaching role is about hitting targets and racing through the curriculum. This one is about helping young people believe they can succeed again.

Simply Education is proud to be working with a fantastic Ofsted-rated 'Good' specialist SEMH provision in Stoke-on-Trent, seeking a passionate Maths Teacher to join their dedicated team after October half term. Whether you're a qualified Maths Teacher (QTS/QTLS) looking for a more rewarding environment, or an experienced SEMH Teacher who is confident delivering Maths (with the flexibility to teach another subject if you have a specialism), we'd love to hear from you.

Why this school? This specialist provision supports young people who have experienced barriers to education and need a fresh start. Every student has an EHCP, meaning learning is genuinely tailored to individual needs, interests and aspirations. You'll teach in small classes, supported by dedicated Learning Mentors, giving you the time and freedom to build meaningful relationships and deliver lessons that truly engage. The school offers a broad curriculum, from Functional Skills through to GCSEs, BTECs and Unit Award Schemes, helping students develop confidence, qualifications and life skills ready for their next chapter. This is a school where progress isn't just measured in grades-it's measured in confidence, resilience and those breakthrough moments that remind you why you chose teaching.

What you'll be doing:

  • Deliver engaging Maths lessons across a range of abilities, from Functional Skills to GCSE.
  • Adapt learning to meet individual EHCP outcomes and student needs.
  • Re-engage learners who may have become disconnected from education.
  • Create a calm, positive and inclusive classroom where every student can succeed.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships that inspire confidence and resilience.
  • Work collaboratively with Learning Mentors and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Support students in developing the skills they need both inside and outside the classroom.
  • If you have another curriculum specialism, there may also be opportunities to teach beyond Maths.

Who we're looking for:

We're looking for someone who is passionate about making a genuine difference. You'll ideally have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) with a Maths specialism or previous experience teaching within an SEMH or SEND setting with confidence delivering Maths.
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills built on consistency and positive relationships.
  • A resilient, patient and adaptable approach.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate young people.
  • A genuine belief that every student can achieve with the right support.
  • Experience working with SEMH, Autism, SEND or trauma-informed practice would be highly beneficial, but the school is equally keen to hear from strong mainstream Maths teachers looking to move into specialist education.

Why teachers love working in SEMH:

  • Smaller class sizes where you can make a real impact.
  • More non-contact time for planning and preparation.
  • Greater creativity and flexibility within the curriculum.
  • Shorter working hours and an improved work-life balance.
  • Dedicated classroom support from experienced Learning Mentors.
  • Complimentary lunch provided each day.
  • The opportunity to genuinely change the trajectory of a young person's future.

Why choose Simply Education? When you work with Simply Education, you'll receive:

  • A dedicated consultant supporting you throughout your journey.
  • 24/7 access to your consultant via phone, text or email.
  • Free CPD, including Autism Awareness, De-escalation and SEND-specific training.
  • Competitive rates of pay.
  • No timesheets-we manage all administration for you.
  • Easy online booking confirmations and diary management.
  • £75 Refer a Friend bonus after qualifying placements.

Ready for a role where your teaching truly matters? If you're a Maths Teacher looking for a career that's rewarding, purposeful and genuinely different, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today with your up-to-date CV or get in touch with the Simply Education SEND team for a confidential conversation about the opportunity. Every day won't be easy-but every day will matter.
