The school are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their SEN school in Darwen, Lancashire. This is a full-time, permanent position starting in September 2024.

The Role:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support the learning and wellbeing of our students, ensuring they have the best opportunities to reach their full potential in a safe and caring environment. This role includes:

  • Supporting the class teacher in delivering high-quality, challenging, and differentiated educational activities.
  • Establishing warm, supportive relationships with pupils to help them feel safe and supported.
  • Assisting with care needs and positive behaviour management tailored to individual students.
  • Promoting independence and personal development in pupils, maintaining high expectations of behaviour.
  • Participating in the planning and evaluation of learning activities and providing meaningful feedback on pupil progress.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, assess, record, and report on pupils’ progress.
  • Support positive behaviour and adapt responses to changes in pupil behaviour.
  • Promote spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development and British values within the curriculum.
  • Support the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of pupils through a holistic approach.

Skills and Qualifications:

Successful candidates will likely demonstrate:

  • Experience working with SEN in either an employed or voluntary setting.
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and child protection procedures.
  • Knowledge or experience of working with pupils with SEN or SEMH/ASD.
  • GCSE Maths and English Level 2/C or above (essential).
  • A positive, creative, and child-first approach to meeting individual needs.
