About the Role
We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and high-achieving secondary school in Romford. This is an exciting opportunity to support students aged 11-16 (or 11-18 where applicable) as they progress through their education and develop both academically and personally.
Working alongside teachers and the wider pastoral team, you will provide classroom support, deliver targeted interventions, and help students overcome barriers to learning. You will play a key role in promoting student engagement, confidence, and independence while contributing to a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Support teachers in delivering engaging and effective lessons across a range of subject areas.
- Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce learning, improve attainment, and build confidence.
- Provide additional support for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), where appropriate.
- Encourage positive behaviour in line with the school's behaviour policy and promote high expectations.
- Support students with organisation, study skills, and independent learning.
- Assist with preparing classroom resources and maintaining an effective learning environment.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
- Help create an inclusive classroom where every student feels supported and able to succeed.
- Supervise students during breaktimes, educational visits, or enrichment activities where required.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and parents to support students' academic and personal development.
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience working with secondary-aged students in a school, youth work, mentoring, coaching, or similar setting is desirable but not essential.
- A genuine passion for supporting young people and helping them reach their full potential.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A calm, patient, and adaptable approach.
- The ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics; relevant Teaching Assistant qualifications are advantageous but not essential.
