An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive specialist educational setting in Upminster. The successful candidate will work closely with students who have a range of special educational needs, helping them to access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their individual goals.
This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a positive impact on young people's lives and who is committed to supporting students with additional learning, communication, social, emotional, or behavioural needs.
Key Responsibilities- Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with special educational needs.
- Assist teachers in planning and delivering engaging, differentiated learning activities.
- Support students in developing communication, social interaction, and independence skills.
- Implement strategies outlined in Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing within the classroom.
- Encourage participation in lessons and wider school activities.
- Assist with monitoring, recording, and reporting on pupil progress.
- Support personal care needs where required.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, parents/carers, and staff members.
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN is desirable.
- Understanding of needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Speech and Language Difficulties, or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, health and social care, or psychology are advantageous but not essential.
