Are you a dedicated and enthusiastic SENCO, looking for an exciting opportunity in Sittingbourne? Simply Education is working with a school, who are looking to appoint an experienced SENCO, starting in September 2024. This is a full-time, permanent position.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Overseeing the provision of special educational needs support across the school.
  • Identifying and assessing the needs of pupils with special educational needs (SEN).
  • Developing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for pupils with SEN, in collaboration with teachers, parents, and external agencies.
  • Providing support and guidance to teachers in adapting teaching methods and resources to meet the needs of pupils with SEN.
  • Liaising with external professionals, such as educational psychologists, speech therapists, and social workers, to arrange assessments and support for pupils with SEN.
  • Providing training and professional development opportunities for staff on SEN-related issues and strategies.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Special Educational Needs Coordination (SENCO), or willingness to work towards one.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies related to special educational needs, such as the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Experience working with pupils with special educational needs in a primary school setting.
  • Strong understanding of different types of special educational needs and appropriate teaching strategies and interventions.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.
  • Enhanced DBS.
