We are seeking to appoint an ambitious, enthusiastic and highly skilled Design & Technology Teacher to join our successful and forward-thinking Technology Department. This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding classroom practitioner, or an Early Career Teacher (ECT), to inspire young people and develop their passion for design, engineering, manufacturing and innovation.

The successful candidate will teach Design & Technology across Key Stages 3 and 4, with opportunities to teach Key Stage 5 for suitably qualified applicants. We welcome applications from specialists in Product Design, Resistant Materials, Engineering, Graphics, CAD/CAM, or related disciplines. As part of a committed and collaborative department, you will play a key role in delivering a broad, engaging and ambitious curriculum that develops students' creativity, technical understanding, problem-solving skills and resilience.

About the Role

  • Plan and teach a broad and balanced curriculum that reflects current industry practices and technological developments.
  • Develop students' practical skills through hands-on workshop activities and design projects.

The Department

Our Design & Technology Department is a vibrant and successful area of the school with a strong record of student achievement and engagement. Facilities may include fully equipped workshops, CAD/CAM technology, 3D printing facilities, laser cutting equipment, computer suites with industry-standard design software, and dedicated product design and engineering spaces. The department places a strong emphasis on practical learning, real-world applications and developing employability skills that prepare students for further education and future careers.

Person Specification

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Degree in Design & Technology, Product Design, Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Design or a related subject.
  • Ability to teach Design & Technology across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Strong subject knowledge and a passion for the discipline.
  • Excellent classroom management and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to raising standards and improving outcomes for all students.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and parents.
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements within workshop environments.

Desirable

  • Experience teaching GCSE and/or A Level Design & Technology.
  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM technologies.
  • Experience with engineering or manufacturing-based projects.
  • Ability to teach across multiple DT specialisms.
  • Experience leading enrichment programmes or STEM initiatives.
